Biography
Bill Louden holds a PhD from the University of Toronto, and Arts and Education degrees from The University of Western Australia and Murdoch University. Currently, he is Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at The University of Western Australia. He has worked as a secondary English teacher, in curriculum and policy roles in the WA Department of Education, and as a university teacher, researcher and dean of education.

Professor Louden’s research interests include literacy, standards and educational change. His most recent research projects have focused on identifying the classroom teaching practices that make the most contribution to students’ intellectual growth.

Professor Louden was a member of the National Inquiry into the Teaching of Literacy and chaired the Western Australian Government’s Literacy and Numeracy Review Taskforce. He is chair of the Curriculum Council, Western Australian’s statutory authority responsible for school curriculum and assessment, and has been a member of the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority since its establishment. He is a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators.
